How to prepare your home for winter viewings

How to prepare your home for winter viewings

Now that the clocks have gone back and the days are getting shorter if you are marketing your home for sale it’s worth thinking about how it looks during the winter months. Don’t worry about letting the weather dictate the desirability of your property there are still plenty of buyers out looking for their dream home.

Strutt & Parker in Winchester has an excellent history with November being their busiest month for exchanges over the past few years. Jake Civardi from the local office offers tips on how to prepare your home for winter viewings:

“Warm & Cosy

When it’s cold outside, viewers become acutely aware of the temperature around them, so walking into a house that’s warm and cosy is extremely important. A cold draught raises questions of low energy efficiency and poor insulation. Make sure all your radiators are working so warmth evenly flows through each room. If you are concerned about condensation in cold weather, keep the heating on at a low even level constantly. This will also help keep the structure dry. If you have an open fire, light it when possible before viewings; not only does this add character and charm, but practically speaking, the light and heat emitted is unbeatable. The last touch – always offer a hot drink to warm the cockles!

Lighten up

At this time of year, the sun goes down much quicker, so after-work viewings may well be in total darkness. The winter solstice is on 21 December, which means an exceptionally short day and long night. Use security lights outside and on the front porch. By dotting a handful of solar garden lights on the edges of your flower beds, you……
