Quietly positioned yet not remote

The Old Farm is exactly as its name suggests, a Grade II listed 17th century former farmhouse and is set on a quiet, no-through country lane and surrounded by private established gardens.

Timber framed and part tile hung, the house is exquisite with beautiful reception rooms where much of the original architectural detailing is clearly in evidence including magnificent beams, superb fireplaces, panelling, original internal doors and brick and oak boarded floors.

The accommodation is extensive, about 5,000 square feet, principally over two floors but also with a cellar and additional attic bedrooms. A superb staircase from the entrance hall, with a galleried landing above, links the two main floors. Impressive reception rooms are classically proportioned with wonderful exposed timbers and there are six bedrooms, three bathrooms and excellent storage.

Clipped hedging screens the entrance to The Old Farm and the lovely gardens of nearly an acre are arranged in rooms separated by hedges and mature trees. The driveway sweeps round the house to an open fronted barn style double garage and further outbuildings.

The Old Farm at Beech is quietly positioned yet not remote, only two miles from Alton and its mainline station. The house is accessed via a lane with no through traffic and the village sits on the northern borders of the South Downs National Park.

A guide price of £1,250,000 is quoted. Contact the team at Jackson-Stops & Staff in Winchester for further details. Call 01962 844299.

Cottage plays its part in architectural history

April 14, 2016 Property News 0

A cottage set in almost a third of an acre and forming part of architectural history has come onto the market for the first time in 75 years.

In one of three pairs of cottages in Winchester Road, Micheldever, it shares its design with another five pairs of cottages in nearby East Stratton that were the work of architect George Dance the Younger, designer of the main house at Stratton Park, now demolished with only the stone portico remaining.

“Much of George Dance the Younger’s work has disappeared over the years so these cottages in Micheldever and East Stratton are important architecturally, resulting in their gaining Grade II listed status,” says Chris Gooch, of Carter Jonas in Winchester.

“The cottage that’s now on the market is on the end of the row in Micheldever and has already been extended in the past as well as having a large detached garage with a room above built to one side. New owners may find it possible to create larger accommodation subject to gaining the necessary consents.

“At present, the cottage has three living rooms on the ground floor, with its comfortable sitting room at the front, dining room in the centre, and garden room with French windows at the rear. Housed in a more recent extension are the kitchen, rear cloakroom with separate shower room, and a utility with its own external door. The first floor offers two bedrooms.

“The cottage is set above the village street in a plot of almost a third of an acre, with a level rear garden bordered by open countryside. The driveway leading up to the garage offers ample parking for several vehicles.

“Micheldever is a village with good facilities, including a shop, popular primary school, church and public house. Rail commuting from nearby Micheldever Station is straightforward and the A33 runs close to the village, connecting with both Basingstoke and Winchester as well as the A303 and M3.”

Guide price is £450,000. For more information, contact Carter Jonas on 01962 842742 or email winchester@carterjonas.co.uk…
